Bahkan tak banyak orang tau, bahwa banyak brand-brand terkenal di pasar luar memproduksi produk olahan kulitnya di daerah Garut. Menurut berita yang di terbitkan detik.com brand yang terkenal seperti Crocodile dan Hush Puppies memproduksi sepatu hingga tas kulit nya di daerah Garut.
Melimpahnya sumber daya seperti kulit hingga Pengrajin nya, membuat kota Garut dikenal sebagai kota penghasil kerajinan kulit terbaik. Bahkan produk kulit hasil buatan Garut pun telah banyak di cari oleh para pelanggan nya baik dari pasar domestik hingga Pasar Luar.
Pengrajin Tas Kulit Garut
Banyaknya permintaan akan akan produk hasil kulit ini membuat penduduk asli bekerja menjadi pengrajin tas berbahan kulit, baik itu jaket kulit maupun tas asli kulit nya.
Dan salah satu pengrajin asli Garut yang sudah lama berkecimpung dalam pembuatan tas asli kulit ialah pak Rian. Beliau sudah hampir 20 tahun bekerja sebagai pengrajin kulit, baik itu Jaket hingga tas asli kulit untuk saat ini.
Untuk produksi, beliau dibantu oleh 3 pegawai yang bertugas yang berbeda-beda. Untuk saat ini, pak Rian telah banyak memproduksi model tas asli kulit, baik itu tas pria kulit maupun tas wanita kulit. Dan salah satu contoh model tas yang banyak di produksi oleh pak Rian ialah tas laptop kulit, tas selempang kulit, tas jinjing kulit, ransel kulit, tas wanita kulit, handbag, dan model tas lainnya.
Banyak nya model tas yang diproduksi, dikarenakan selain menyediakan tas yang ready stock tapi beliau juga menerima pemesanan untuk pembuatan tas dengan model langsung dari konsumen (custom). Hal ini dikarena pak Rian membuka pintu sebesar-besarnya baik orang yang ingin memesan atau pun bekerja sama.
Selain pemesanan perorangan, pak Rian juga menerima pembuatan untuk jumlah banyak. Baik itu untuk di jual kembali, atau pun untuk dibagikan sebagai souvenir kulit dari suatu perusahaan atau acara.
Untuk proses pembuatan tas asli kulit, pak Rian membagi prosesnya menjadi 5 tahapan
- Tahap Pertama (Pemilihan Material Kulit)
Untuk dasar pembuatan suatu tas, dibutuhkan kulit dengan kualitas terbaik agar hasil dari tas yang dihasilkan dapat memberikan kesan dan kepuasan tersendiri bagi penggunanya. Pada umumnya, bahan dasar yang banyak digunakan ialah kulit sapi. Karena selain ketebalan nya yang cukup, kulit sapi pun memiliki tekstur yang lentur. Maka sangat cocok di gunakan untuk bahan tas
2. Tahapan Ke Dua (Tahapan Pembuatan polan)
Pada tahapan kedua. Setiap model tas yang akan dibuat akan dibuatkan pola nya sesuai dengan detail pemesanan. Untuk pembuatan pola, menurut pak Rian dibutuhkan detail tas yang dipesan seperti : detail model (baik berupa foto/gambar), Ukuran (panjang x lebar x tinggi) cm dari suatu tas, dan Warna (jika pemesanan tas custom kulit).
3. Tahap Ke Tiga (Pemotongan Pola)
Pada tahap ini, kulit akan digunting / dipotong bedasarkan pola yang telah dibuat.
4. Tahap ke Empat (Penyisitan dan Penjahitan)
Setelah kulit dipotong bedasarkan pola, Kulit akan di sisi. Bertujuan agar kulit mudah pada saat di jahit dan di tekuk. Setelah di sisit, proses selanjutnya ialah menjahit kulit bedasarkan pola yang dibuat.
5. Tahap ke Lima (Packing)
Setelah tas selesai dibuat, proses terakhir ialah packing agar tas pesanan konsumen dapat diterima secara baik dan utuh
